SPOKANE—Spokane audiences will be treated to the very special sound of The Brothers Cazimero in performance with the Spokane Symphony, conducted by Morihiko Nakahara at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at 7 p.m. Hula dancers, drawn from the Royal Dance Company, will join The Brothers Cazimero on stage for select songs throughout the program.
The Brothers Cazimero are consummate performers who have made their indelible imprint on the face of contemporary Hawaiian music. Their talent, longevity and sales success have placed them in a league of their own, untouched by any other performer in the history of Hawaiian music. Their musical talent, incredible showmanship and infectious humor have bridged cultural gaps that naturally exist with ethnic music and dance. The Brothers Cazimero achieve a full-bodied sound that emanates from two traditional instruments, the acoustic bass and a double-necked guitar. Thirty years of successful concerts is an indication of their exceptional fan base and wide appeal. CLICK TO HEAR THE BROTHERS CAZIMERO AND OTHER DETAILS
The Grammy-nominated duo was inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and 2007, joining the ranks of Hawaiian music legends. In 2008, The Brothers Cazimero were recognized by their peers and received lifetime achievement awards from the Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts. BIO FOR THE BROTHERS CAZIMERO
In 1975, at the height of the renaissance of Hawaiian culture, Robert Cazimero founded a school for male hula dancers, called the Halau Na Kamalei and promptly won an award at the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, often called the "Superbowl of Hula". Thirty years later, Robert and his men swept the awards with their warrior-like dancing. As a respected “Kumu Hula”, or Master Teacher, Robert travels all over sharing his expertise with hula aficionados.
A pre-concert hula demonstration will be provided by Halau Hula O Kuulei, directed by Spokane resident Kuulei Johnson, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Founders Gallery. In addition, on Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. at the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, there will be a culture sharing event with students from local schools sharing different cultural traditions with a group from Kamehameha School in Honolulu via high speed videoconferencing. This event is open to the public and is free.
Ticket prices begin at $20, $12 for students, and are available with personalized service at the Spokane Symphony Ticket Office, located at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox, 1001 W.
